Integrating High-Performance Building Systems and Sustainability Strategies under LEED BD+C Core & Shell

The Cathay Cosmos Building, with sustainability consulting services provided by RCI Sustainability Group (hereafter referred to as RCI), achieved LEED BD+C: Core & Shell Gold certification in December 2025. This achievement reflects the project’s strong performance in building efficiency, energy management, and overall sustainability in alignment with internationally recognised green building standards.
Located in the core district of Taipei City and in close proximity to major transportation hubs and key commercial areas, the Cathay Cosmos Building is a contemporary office development that combines landmark presence with a high degree of functional flexibility. Developed by Cathay Life Insurance, the project is positioned to respond to next-generation workplace models and evolving corporate needs through the delivery of a high-quality office environment.
Guided by the integrated design principles of “Green, Smart, and Human-Centered,” RCI supported the project from the early design stages by coordinating LEED certification strategies. Key areas of focus included site condition analysis, building systems planning, assessment of energy and environmental performance, and the integration of sustainability objectives throughout the design and implementation phases.
The building incorporates a steel structural system and a high-performance double-glazed curtain wall, enhancing structural safety while reducing overall energy demand. Common areas are supplied with renewable electricity and supported by intelligent monitoring and management systems, enabling continuous tracking of energy use and building system performance and providing a strong foundation for long-term operational efficiency.
As the flagship project within Cathay Life Insurance’s flexible office service platform, the Cathay Cosmos Building adopts a digital, data-driven management approach that integrates space management, property operations, and environmental monitoring systems. This approach supports continuous performance tracking during operation and enables tenants to advance carbon reduction initiatives and ESG governance objectives.
RCI continues to apply a systematic approach to sustainable design and extensive LEED consulting experience, supporting clients in integrating sustainability strategies across the design, construction, and operational phases to ensure long-term building performance and environmental responsibility.
