What is GRESB?

GRESB (Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark) is the leading global ESG benchmark for real estate and infrastructure portfolios.

It assesses and benchmarks the sustainability performance of property companies, REITs, private funds, and infrastructure assets, providing investors with standardised data to evaluate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance.

GRESB is widely used by institutional investors to inform capital allocation decisions and measure portfolio resilience.

GRESB Assessment Components

The GRESB Real Estate Assessment evaluates performance across two primary components:

MANAGEMENT

Assesses ESG leadership and governance at the organisational level, including:

  • Sustainability policies and objectives

  • Risk management processes

  • Stakeholder engagement

  • Data management systems

  • ESG strategy and oversight

This component evaluates how sustainability is embedded within corporate structure and decision-making.

PERFORMANCE

Assesses asset-level operational performance, including:

  • Energy and carbon emissions

  • Water consumption

  • Waste management

  • Building certifications

  • Climate risk assessment and resilience

Performance data is benchmarked against peers globally, generating a GRESB Score and peer comparison.
